Lively upscale steakhouse in the heart of Lexington! My husband and I last minute decided to try Tony's as we had heard great things, they were able to accommodate us for a day of reservation on a Saturday evening and even honored our request for a booth. Upon arriving the valet and hostesses were kind and friendly. The atmosphere was very lively, loud, and energetic which is unique compared to the other steakhouses in the area! There was a live instrumental band playing which may bother some but was a pleasant surprise to us. The decor is industrial and grey, nothing to write home about but the beautiful staircase in the center of the restaurant makes up for it! Once seated the server assistant promptly approached us filling our water glasses and the server was quickly behind him! I had a Basil Bush cocktail, very refreshing, however my husband was a bit disappointed there was not a bourbon cocktail on the menu. We enjoyed the house bread and bourbon butter, extremely delicious! For our starter we enjoyed the blue point oysters which we appreciated that we could specify the quantity we wanted. We ordered the porterhouse steak, Brussel sprouts, whipped sweet potatoes, and Yukon mashed potatoes for our entree. We did have to wait for a while between our starters and main course. The steak was extremely flavorful and cooked perfect, I would say it was top 5 steaks we have ever eaten, however it was not warm, I imagine it would have been even better had it came out fresh! Our sweet potatoes didn't make it to the table along with our other food, however the manager took care of this for us! The sides were all very good, but the brussel sprouts were the winner for me! The service was a little underwhelming and we realized after paying our bill while filling out a comment card that desert/desert menu was never offered, which we both thought was odd. If 4.5 stars were an option that would be my rating for this particular night, overall experience was good and food was great, we will be back.
First time at Tony's for our anniversary with my family. We had a great time! We started with calamari and the crab cake. Both were amazing. The calamari was perfectly fried with a nice light sauce. The crab cake was one of the best I have ever had. Not a lot of filler. Plenty to share between the 5 of us too. The bread is delicious and they have a regular butter and a bourbon butter. Both delicious. Most of us got steak and shared sides. You have to share sides, they are large. I got the filet cooked medium and it was perfectly cooked. Great sear and pink/red center. They have lots of different butters and sauces you can add to your steak. We got the garlic butter, yum. My mom and I easily split the 9oz filet and were stuffed. My sister in law got the snapper and loved it, especially the drunken cous cous it comes with. The mashed potatoes are the best I have ever had. Creamy and garlicky. Just perfect. The mushrooms were good but not the highlight for me. The Mac and cheese was creamy and rich and perfect as well. We got several desserts. The orange bread pudding was surprisingly different take on bread pudding. Citrusy and light. The star of the bread pudding was the vanilla ice cream on top though! The crème brûlée was exactly what it should be. Lovely vanilla flavor with just the right texture and the sugar crust on top was perfectly done. That was my favorite dessert by far. The chocolate layered cake with raspberry sauce was my least favorite but by no means was it bad. The crème brûlée just stole the show. I will 100% be back soon! Also our waitress was wonderful and attentive and helpful. I will add one thing I was not thrilled about was: our table wasn't ready yet so we went to the bar to get a drink before dinner. We all sat down and not one bartender even acknowledged our existence for at least a solid 5 minutes. There were not a lot of people at the bar and at least 4 bartenders behind the bar. I don't expect to be served immediately and I don't mind waiting but they wouldn't even look at us or acknowledge they were busy. Usually a bartender acknowledges you when you sit down and says I'll be with you in a minute or something similar. It was awkward enough for my whole group to wonder what was going on. Finally someone addressed us and asked for our order. They were out of champagne by the glass. It just seemed really odd that a high class restaurant wouldn't have champagne available on a Friday night. It didn't ruin my evening or anything but it was slightly annoying. By the time we got our drinks our table was ready and we had to take them to our table. When we got to the table I noticed there was a half bottle of champagne on the menu that was the same as what was on the bar menu by the glass and asked for it and they brought it out immediately. So what was the deal at the bar? Why couldn't they just open a bottle? Also the old fashioned was terrible. Stick with wine when coming here and they have a great selection of it. Also it was super dark where we were seated. So be prepared to use a phone light or something to read the menu. Several table around us also had to use a light to see. Romantic but not practical to read a menu.
Went to Tony's for a team dinner. Place is upscale with 2 levels. It has a full bar. Started the night with whiskey sour and hits the spot to end the day. We ordered a number of appetizers to share. Started off with the oysters. Very fresh. Crab cake is a signature item and did not disappoint. Plenty of crab chunks although Kona odd presentation. We also had the calamari... crispy and soft inside. There were plenty of steak to choose from. Had the 9 oz steak worth onion $ mushroom on top and grilled Caesar salad. The salad was huge. Salad dressing on top and plenty of cheese. In addition, there was a slice of grilled asiago. The steak was delicious and cooked medium rare the way I like them. We ordered a number of slides including Mac & cheese, mushrooms, mashed potato and ruffle potato wedge. Everyone said everything was delicious. I tired the truffle potato wedges and iit was crispy on the outside and tasty. Definitely a place to visit when you are in town. Staff efficient and friendly. They have valet in the front as there are limited parking downtown. Had a great time. Highly recommended. Will be back again next time.
Amazing pasta!!!! Customizable. Inside and outside eating area. Incredible dessert selection.
Food, ambience, and service are second to none! The 9 Oz filet is outstanding, seared with a proprietary blend of rub spices. The side dishes are also top notch!
Overall, a great experience with good food and amazing service. We got the arancini which was ok, not amazing. The calamari was really good! The beef tartar was interesting in that the sauce was on the side and not mixed in like it normally is. Overall, delicious dish. I had a porterhouse steak and others in my party had a filet. All the meat was a little under salted but overall, great place.
Tony's is one of the best restaurants in Lexington. It's located on Main Street right across from Rupp Arena. You can have a romantic date, a group dinner, or solid conversation with strangers at the bar. This was only my third trip to Tony's even though I lived in Lexington for six years. The prices always intimidated me, but every time I've gone, it's worth every penny. I had two Old Fashioneds, one with Basil Hayden and the other with Woodford. Both were fantastic. The bread is a perfect way to soak in the alcohol and prepare for a delicious meal. I didn't order any appetizers myself, but tried a few PEI mussels, which were pretty darn good. The biggest surprise of the night for me was the Seared Ahi Tuna Tartare. One of my friends ordered it and when I tried it, I was blown away! I'm getting that next time. The Sir Barton steak was the perfect size and a nice medium rare. The Mac and cheese was great as always. The truffle wedges were solid too, but I was too full by the time I reached that plate. For the prices, you get very generous portions. If you go with somebody, I highly recommend splitting dishes. That will go a long way. Final shoutout to our server. He had a lot of orders and checks to keep track of, and he got to us before glasses were empty and was pretty attentive for a busy night.
A great steakhouse. In this area (Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee) Jeff Ruby's is the steakhouse by which all others will be judged. Tonys of Lexington's steaks were just as juicy and delicious and the kicker was I made the reservation the day before, Jeff Ruby was fully booked a week and half out. It's a very nice restaurant with the typical steakhouse decor though on the upscale side with heavy wooden tables and comfy leather covered chairs. It is a bit dark though and a tad loud. When I made the reservations the day before there were a lot of times available, they must have filled them all as the restaurant was packed when we arrived. They offered valet parking which was quite inexpensive as you get a discount with a reservation at Tony's. The sophisticated staff were very friendly and dressed in black and white. We were seated right away and service was at the right pace, never feeling rushed or waiting very long for drinks, appetizers and entrees. We started with complimentary bread and two kinds of butter, oysters (stick with the east coast oysters, the special Kumamoto oysters tasted a bit spoiled, as they usually do, I'm sure they're not as we didn't get sick, maybe that's how they all taste), jumbo lump crab cake which was delicious and your standard steakhouse Caesar salad. The steaks were phenomenal. Tender and well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I got the ribeye, my daughter had the filet and both were delicious and succulent as a great steak should be. For some reason my wife had some pasta dish, which she said was good but who gets pasta at a steakhouse. lol. Tony's of Lexington, when it comes to steakhouses, it comes second to none.
Came here for a work dinner and had a great time. Service was on point, friendly and professional. Food was amazing! Started with the crab cake and steak tartare, both were delicious. I got the pork chop, two colleagues got the filet and one got the sea bass. We got the Mac n cheese, creamy spinach, Brussel sprouts, truffle wedges, and sweet potato. Brussel sprouts could have been better if they had a bit of a char on them but that's just my opinion. Everything was excellent.
